When we started Studio Luxmore we spent more time talking about what we cared about than the services we were planning to offer!
It was really important for us to agree, and even though we were already close friends, to make sure that our business was aligned with our values. So even though we both have a passion for art and design, our values go far beyond our interests.
Why are brand values so important?
You really can’t have a brand in today’s market that doesn’t have values. Your customers want to know who you are and what you stand for.
For example, one of our clients Judith Peterhoff only uses recycled materials to make her jewellery. This is because she’s passionate about ethically and sustainably made jewellery, so she’s made it a cornerstone of her own business.
“Every piece I design and make is made with conscious purchasing in mind. I hand make every piece in London, either in my studio or at home. I use recycled materials, and only work with suppliers and artisans that share our ethical and environmental values. All pieces are either made to order or in small, limited numbers.”
What do we believe in?
Simply, we believe in making the world a better place and ethical marketing.
We want to tread lightly and be a positive change. This means we only work with sustainable and ethical brands that can demonstrate this in the way they work. We have said no to clients whose work we don’t believe in: and we feel fine doing this.
We also believe in truly flexible working practises: not just paying lip service to it. We take time off when we need to, and really look after each other as well as the talented people that work with us. We know that the happier we all are, the better work is. It’s a community!
Another one of our values is a growth mindset. We talk a lot about this with each other, and give each other a nudge when we need it. It’s a hugely important part of our work with some of our clients, who may be feeling unsupported and overwhelmed, particularly if they work alone. Through our work we help them to feel confident and trust their instincts, and to see each point as an opportunity to grow. Never beat yourself up if something goes wrong!
