We’re huge advocates of using a growth mindset as a key tool to help you grow your business. Firstly, what’s a growth mindset? If you have a growth mindset you believe you have the potential to learn and improve. It’s a vital mindset for people who want to embrace the challenges that life inevitably throws at us and learn new skills and adapt. It’s also vital for good marketing!
We realise that marketing can be daunting. It’s very common to feel uncomfortable talking about your work, not knowing what to post on social media, to be put off by digital marketing, and to worry about appearing salesy. These are all valid feelings, but those fears can really get in the way of you doing what you need to do to grow your business. Don’t push this fear down though. Acknowledge what these fears are, write them down and look at them.
Embrace a Growth Mindset
Embracing a growth mindset can help you overcome those fears, and allow you to step out of your comfort zone. Be confident in your own ability to learn new skills, which ultimately will help your business reach its potential. For micro-businesses this is really important. Getting into a positive headspace will really help with your marketing, as you’ll be happy to learn and engage with it, and as you do you’ll soon start to feel more confident, seeing what works best for your business.
Have a passion for learning
Physiologically, learning new things is good for your brain. It stimulates neurons in the brain, which forms more neural pathways and allows electrical impulses to travel faster across them. Practising a new skill increases the density of your myelin (white matter) in your brain, helping improve performance.
Marketing and mindset
Once you stop telling yourself you can’t do something, and start to train yourself to think of it as something you can’t do yet, you can get on and learn it. By adopting a Growth Mindset you’ll be less afraid of failing and more comfortable stepping out of your comfort zone. Not everything will work the first time, but each time you will learn and see how you can improve.
